Narrow Nightstand Dimensions

A narrow nightstand is about 30–40 cm wide, the size IKEA suggests for smaller rooms; Dunelm files anything under 35 cm as compact. IKEA’s BRIMNES is 39 × 41 × 53 cm (15 3/8 × 16 1/8 × 20 7/8 in) and KULLEN 35 × 40 × 49 cm. It needs its own width plus about 5 cm between the bed and the wall. UK accessible-home rules keep a 75 cm (750 mm) walkway on only one side of a single bed, so the other side can take a slim nightstand.

Into the gap beside the bedFits

It is 39 cm wide; with 5 cm to the bed it needs 44 cm, and you have 50 cm.

Measure from the bed frame, not the mattress, to the wall or wardrobe.

Level with the mattressFits

The top is at 53 cm and your mattress top at 55 cm, 2 cm apart; within 5 cm either way reads as level.

Low beds suit low nightstands, so measure your own mattress top rather than assuming a standard bed.

Clear of the way into bedFits

It is 41 cm deep, within the 60 cm at the head of the bed where bedside furniture can go without blocking the way in.

In a small room the floor beside the bed is also the way in, so keep the nightstand shallow.

Questions

How wide is a narrow nightstand?

About 30–40 cm. IKEA says 30 to 40 cm can work well in smaller rooms, against 40–60 cm for a full-size surface, and Dunelm counts anything under 35 cm as compact.

What is the narrowest IKEA nightstand?

Of the ones here, KULLEN at 35 cm wide (35 × 40 × 49 cm), then KNARREVIK at 37 cm and BRIMNES at 39 cm (15 3/8 in). KNARREVIK is also the shallowest, 28 cm deep.

How much space do you need between the bed and the wall for a nightstand?

The nightstand’s width plus about 5 cm (2 in) to the bed, so a 39 cm BRIMNES needs 5 cm more than its own width. Measure from the bed frame, not the mattress.

Can a single bed go against the wall?

Under UK accessible-home rules, single and twin bedrooms need a 75 cm (750 mm) walkway on one side of each bed only, so the other side can sit by the wall or take a narrow nightstand. Bedside furniture may also take the first 600 mm of the walkway beside the bed head.

Do small nightstands need to be anchored?

IKEA says so even for its 49 cm KULLEN: “WARNING! Tipping hazard – this product must be securely anchored.” Use screws and plugs that suit your wall.

How deep should a nightstand be in a small room?

Shallow: Charmydecor suggests 10–14 in (25–36 cm) for small rooms. IKEA’s KNARREVIK is 28 cm deep and HAUGA 36 cm (14 in).

For nightstand suppliers

Narrow nightstands are bought for small rooms and tight gaps, so buyers ask the exact width and depth first, then the drawer size. Mark the real sizes on your own product photo in SizeMarker, as in the picture at the top, and send one product card for WhatsApp or WeChat.
