Dimensions / Industrial & logistics / Corrugated boxes / Triple wall
A triple-wall corrugated box has four flat facings and three corrugated mediums (NMFC Item 222-6), a 7-ply board (Smurfit Westrock). Rule 41 grades it by a puncture test, not a burst test: the common 1100 grade, or 90 ECT, may carry 280 lb of box and contents at up to 120 in of outside length + width + depth, and the four triple-wall grades run from 700 or 67 ECT (240 lb, 110 in) to 1300 or 112 ECT (300 lb, 125 in). Uline’s 1,100 lb. board is over 1/2" thick. Sellers rate boxes of the same 1100 board from 280 lb (Box USA) to 1,500 lbs (Uline), so ask what the figure means. Pallet-sized triple-wall bins with a lid are Gaylord boxes.

Box USA’s 40 × 30 × 30 in triple-wall box, measured outside, and the 1100 or 90 ECT limits are filled in. Enter your gross weight; each check uses the numbers in the tables on this page.
Sizes in millimetres, weights in kilograms, the box measured outside (1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 lb = 0.4536 kg). Boxes stand upright, in straight columns.
1041 + 787 + 762 = 2590 mm, within 3048 mm, and 120 kg is within the 127 kg limit of this grade.
Filled in: Rule 41’s 1100 or 90 ECT row, 280 lb (127.0 kg) and 120 in (3,048 mm), and Box USA’s 40 × 30 × 30 in box, 41 × 31 × 30 in outside.
Boxes of 1041 × 787 mm fit 1 per layer on the 1219 × 1016 mm deck without overhang, and 762 mm boxes go 2 high under 1778 mm with the 141 mm pallet: 2 a pallet, enough for 2.
A 41 × 31 in box goes one to a layer on a 48 × 40 in pallet; Uline lists its 48 × 40 × 36 in triple-wall box by outside size, 46 3/4 x 38 3/4 x 36 in inside.
Loose and upright, the boxes go 14 per layer and 3 high in 2393 mm: 42, enough for your 40, and 4800 kg is within the 28380 kg payload.
Box USA rates this box at 280 lb, the Rule 41 figure; Uline rates its 1,100# boxes at 1,050 to 1,500 lbs. Enter the figure your box maker prints.

A box of four flat facings and three corrugated mediums (NMFC Item 222-6); Smurfit Westrock calls it 7-ply construction. It is used for heavier cargoes and for severe climatic conditions and mechanical stresses (TIS).
Under rail Rule 41 the 1100 or 90 ECT grade allows 280 lb of box and contents at up to 120 in of outside length + width + depth, and 1300 or 112 ECT allows 300 lb and 125 in. Sellers print their own loads for 1100 board: Box USA 280 lb, Uline 1,050 to 1,500 lbs.
It is the puncture test of the board, in inch-ounces per inch of tear, not a burst test (Rule 41; NMFC Item 222-6). The ECT that goes with 1100 is 90; 112 ECT goes with 1300.
Uline’s 1,100 lb. triple wall is over 1/2" thick, and Box USA lists its 90 ECT box with a 1/2 in wall. So Box USA’s 40 x 30 x 30 in box measures 41 x 31 x 30 in outside.
Smurfit Westrock calls tri-wall an efficient alternative to timber, plastic or metal packaging, and Uline promises the strength of a plywood crate at the cost of corrugated; Rule 41 still caps the 1100 grade at 280 lb for carriage.
Not quite: Uline sells the same board as a Triple Wall RSC, a one-piece box with no separate lid, and as a Triple Wall Gaylord, a pallet-sized bin with a 275 lb. test lid included.
Buyers of machinery, auto parts and valves ask whether a triple-wall box can replace the wooden crate, which grade it is, what load the box maker rates it for, and whether it ships on a standard pallet. Mark the real box, its board and label on your own product photo in SizeMarker, as in the picture at the top, and send one product card for WhatsApp or WeChat.
