A bar-height stool has a seat about 29–32 in (74–81 cm) high for bars of 41–43 in (104–109 cm) (dimensions.com); IKEA pairs 39–42 in bars with 28–30 in (71.1–76.2 cm) seats, or 101–106 cm with 72–76 cm. Most have a footrest. NKBA asks a 12 in (30.5 cm) deep knee space at a 42 in bar, and 36 in (91.4 cm) behind seated diners for others to edge past.

dimensions.com puts the seat at 29–32 in (74–81 cm). IKEA’s YNGVAR is 29 1/2 in (74.9 cm), its NORDVIKEN 75 cm and Boraam’s Augusta bar stool 30.25 in (76.8 cm).
IKEA pairs 39–42 in bars with 28–30 in (71.1–76.2 cm) seats, and Amisco a 40–42 in bar with a 30 in (76.2 cm) stool. The seat should sit 10–12 in (25.4–30.5 cm) below the bar’s underside.
NKBA allows a knee space 24 in wide and 12 in deep (61 × 30.5 cm) for each diner at a 42 in (106.7 cm) counter.
NKBA allows 32 in (81.3 cm) from the counter edge when nobody passes behind, 36 in (91.4 cm) for people to edge past and 44 in (111.8 cm) to walk past.
Most have one: dimensions.com says most bar stools incorporate footrests that support the legs and improve stability, and that footrests became important as stool heights increased.
Inside Out Contracts gives 1000–1100 mm (100–110 cm) as the average commercial bar; IKEA’s STENSELE bar table is 105 cm, and its YNGVAR stool suits a bar of 43 1/4 in (109.9 cm).
