Dimensions / Industrial & logistics / Wine bottles / Burgundy bottle
A Burgundy bottle has sloping shoulders and a wider body. Saverglass’s 750 ml Bourgogne Tradition is 296.00 mm tall and 82.20 mm across and weighs 578 g; real 750 ml Burgundy bottles run 285.10 to 304.80 mm tall and 79.68 to 92.9 mm across, and weigh 397 g to 919 g (O-I). Wider than a Bordeaux and a little shorter, it packs 194 to a Saverglass pallet layer against 203 for the Bordelaise. In a 12-bottle case sized for Bordeaux, 4 × 3 Burgundy bottles of 82 mm need 328 mm of inside length.

Berlin Packaging’s 750 ml Burgundy and a 12-bottle case made for Bordeaux are filled in. Enter your bottle and case; each check follows a rule or figure on this page.
Volumes in millilitres, sizes in millimetres. The brimful capacity is on the maker’s drawing; take the bottle diameter at the widest part of the body, and the case sizes inside.
750 ml is on the EU list for still wine (2007/45/EC) and among the US standards of fill (27 CFR 4.72). An EU-marked bottle of this size may hold up to 10 ml more or less than marked (75/107/EEC).
The EU and US lists do not care about shape: a 750 ml Burgundy is as legal as a Bordeaux.
12 bottles 82 mm across in a 4 × 3 grid take 328 × 246 mm, more than the 318 × 246 mm inside this case. Choose a case at least that size inside, or fewer bottles a row.
TeleCajas’s 12-bottle box suits Bordeaux bottles; at 82 mm, Berlin Packaging’s Burgundy needs a case of 328 × 246 mm inside, so the default does not fit.
750 ml in a bottle holding 775 ml to the brim leaves 25 ml, 3.2% of its capacity, before the closure goes in; US rules allow up to 6% after closure (27 CFR 4.71).
Berlin Packaging’s 29340P3 holds 775 ml to the brim, 25 ml over its 750 ml fill.

| Rule or fact | What it says |
|---|---|
| EU sizes2007/45/EC | The shape does not matter: a Burgundy follows the same still-wine list as any bottle, so 750 ml is allowed and 700 ml is not |
| US sizes27 CFR 4.72 | Nor in the US: a 750 ml Burgundy is one of the 25 fills on the list |
| Headspace, US27 CFR 4.71 | Berlin Packaging’s 29340P3 holds 775 ml brimful, so 750 ml leaves 25 ml of air, 3.2% of the bottle, inside the 6% allowed once it is closed |
| Shape and grapesWine Spectator, 2012 | Slightly fatter with more sloping shoulders, typically for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Rhône-styled wines; that glassblowers found it easier to make is a theory |
| Heritage shapeSaverglass | The Bourgogne 1859 keeps generous proportions, slightly asymmetric shoulders and a very deep punt |

Saverglass’s Bourgogne Tradition is 296.00 mm tall and 82.20 mm across; O-I’s W6 is 290.53 × 79.68 mm and Berlin Packaging’s 29340P3 296 × 82 mm. Fuller premium shapes reach 88.60 mm (O-I W-1507) or 92.9 mm (Saverglass Bourgogne 1859).
Wider, not taller: 79.68 to 92.9 mm across against 76.60 mm for Saverglass’s Bordelaise Tradition, and mostly 293 to 296 mm tall against its 300.50 mm.
Wine Spectator: traditionally Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and Rhône-styled wines as well. The same article says the shape may simply have been easier for glassblowers to make, but that is only a theory.
Not one sized for Bordeaux: TeleCajas’s 12-bottle box is about 31.8 × 24.6 cm inside, and 4 × 3 bottles of 82 mm need 328 × 246 mm. Choose a case at least that size inside, or pack 6 to a case as EU wine usually is.
397 g for O-I’s W-1507 up to 919 g for its Cabo; Saverglass’s Bourgogne Tradition is 578 g, its Tradition 2 of September 2025 470 g and the heritage Bourgogne 1859 842 g.
Wineries ask for the height and body diameter, the glass weight, the brimful volume and fill level, the finish, the punt and the colour, and the case and pallet the bottles need, since a Bordeaux case is too narrow. Mark the real bottle, its shoulder, finish and punt on your own photo in SizeMarker, as in the picture at the top, and send one product card for WhatsApp or WeChat.
