Questions

What size media console do I need for my TV?

One about 20–30 cm wider than the TV itself (IKEA Japan). IKEA’s HEMNES, 148 cm (58 1/4 in) wide, suits a TV up to 58 in, and its 180 cm (70 7/8 in) BESTÅ a TV up to 72 in.

How tall should a media console be?

It depends on your seat: IKEA Japan suggests 40–50 cm for a standard sofa, 30–40 cm for a low sofa or floor seating and 50 cm for a dining chair. IKEA’s US benches run 38–64 cm (15–25 in).

How high should the middle of the screen be?

At your eye level when seated, about 107 cm (42 in) from the floor according to SANUS. IKEA Japan notes that the natural line of sight when sitting is about 15° below horizontal, so slightly lower is fine.

How deep should a media console be for an AV receiver?

Deeper than the receiver: Yamaha’s RX-V6A is 38 cm (14 7/8 in) deep and Denon’s AVR-X1800H 34 cm (13.3 in), so a 47 cm (18 1/2 in) HEMNES takes either, while a 35 cm (13 3/4 in) LACK is shallower than both.

Will the remote work through closed doors?

With the right doors. IKEA designed the FJÄLLBO doors so that signals from your remote get through, and its benches have a hole or gap at the back for the cables.

Does a media console need to be anchored?

Yes. IKEA marks its TV benches as a tipping hazard that must be securely anchored, and CPSC counts 17,800 people injured by TV and furniture tip-overs each year in the US, a child every 53 minutes.

For TV stand suppliers

Media consoles are bought for a TV and the equipment under it, so buyers ask for the width, the inside depth, the height and the heaviest TV the top takes. Mark the real sizes on your own product photo in SizeMarker, as in the picture at the top, and send one product card for WhatsApp or WeChat.
