Dimensions / Building materials / Garage doors / RV door
There is no standard RV garage door: makers sell tall sizes in residential and commercial lines. Clopay’s Classic Steel goes to 20 ft wide and 16 ft high, Hörmann North America’s Pro Safe 2100 to 20 × 16 ft, Raynor’s Aspen to 16 ft high in commercial sizes, and commercial lines to 24 ft and more. Size the door from the coach: Newmar prints 12 ft 10 in for its Bay Star gas Class A, and Tiffin 13 ft 4 in for the Allegro Bus, for which it asks a 14 ft garage. Tall doors use torsion springs only (extension springs stop at 8 ft), more sections (7 from 12 ft 4 in), high-lift tracks that need the lift plus 9-1/2 in of headroom, and wall-mount openers, which add no depth but stop at 14 ft high and 180 sq ft (Genie).

A 12 × 14 ft door on torsion springs with a wall-mount opener, a Newmar Bay Star 3114 and the room measured in the garage are filled in; change the door, the track, the RV or what you measured.
Clearances are the figures Clopay, Amarr and Overhead Door print for their own doors; other makers differ by an inch or so, so go by the installation sheet of the door you buy.
The Newmar Bay Star 3114 (Class A gas) is 12 ft 10 in high as its maker prints it, so a 14 ft door leaves 14 in (356 mm) above it; measure the roof units and antennas on your own coach.
Newmar prints 12 ft 10 in for the Bay Star 3114; Tiffin asks a 14 ft garage for its Allegro Bus.
Clopay asks for 14 in above the opening for torsion springs on a 15 in radius track; you have 16 in (406 mm).
A standard-lift torsion door on 15 in radius track takes 14 in; a high lift, the lift plus 9-1/2 in.
The tracks run back the door height plus 18 in (Clopay and Amarr): 168 + 18 = 186 in (4724 mm); you have 190 in (4826 mm). A wall-mount opener adds no depth (Overhead Door); Genie’s runs doors up to 14 ft high, 18 ft wide and 180 sq ft, and this 12 × 14 ft door is 168 sq ft.
Genie’s wall-mount opener: doors up to 14 ft high, 18 ft wide and 180 sq ft.

One taller than the coach as its maker prints it: a Tiffin Wayfarer (11 ft 4 in) clears a 12 ft door by 8 in, a Newmar Bay Star 3114 (12 ft 10 in) needs a 14 ft door, and Tiffin asks a 14 ft garage for its 13 ft 4 in Allegro Bus.
Clopay’s Classic Steel and Hörmann’s Pro Safe 2100 go to 16 ft and Hörmann’s Therma Tech 3400 to 14 ft; commercial lines go to 20 and 24 ft.
Only in dealer guides: OGD lists 12 × 12, 14 × 14 and 16 × 14 ft. Makers build to the opening; Raynor’s Encore comes in 1 in width and 3 in height steps.
One whose track runs up the wall before it turns back, so the open door sits above the opening. It needs the lift plus at least 9-1/2 in of headroom (Clopay) but less depth: the opening height less the lift plus 30 in (Overhead Door).
A wall-mount (jackshaft) opener, which needs no extra depth; Genie’s runs doors up to 14 ft high, 18 ft wide and 180 sq ft, so a 16 × 14 ft door at 224 sq ft is too big for it.
There is no federal height limit; most states allow 13 ft 6 in to 14 ft (FHWA), and Florida’s statute sets 13 ft 6 in for any vehicle.
Buyers of RV doors start from the coach and ask for the clear opening height, the section count and heights, the track (standard, high or vertical lift) and its headroom, torsion springs and their cycle rating, the opener the door suits, the wind rating where it applies, and long-section crating. Mark those on a photo of your own door with SizeMarker, like the picture at the top, and share one card in WhatsApp or WeChat.
