Dimensions / Building materials / PVC pipe / Schedule 40 PVC
Schedule 40 PVC is the thinner of the two ASTM D1785 walls: 2 in Sch 40 is 2.375 in (60.3 mm) outside with a 0.154 in minimum wall, a 2.047 in average ID, 280 psi at 73 °F and 69.5 lb per 100 ft (Charlotte, IPEX). The rating falls as the size grows, from 600 psi at 1/2 in to 180 psi at 6 in, and with heat: × 0.62 at 100 °F and × 0.22 at 140 °F, the limit. It is usually white, sold in 10 and 20 ft, plain or belled (a 2 in bell is 4.00 in deep), often dual-marked for pressure and DWV, and it is not threaded. Its D2466 fittings have 1.156 in sockets at 2 in, against 1.500 in for Sch 80.

A 100 ft run of 2 in belled pipe carrying 150 psi of 100 °F water, and a length measured at the yard, are filled in; change the size, run, temperature or your readings and the three checks follow.
Only the temperatures the makers tabulate are offered; for water in between, take the hotter one. Weights are Charlotte’s, per 100 ft as sold.
Each 20 ft length of belled 2 in Sch 40 loses 4 in inside the bell it fits into, so it adds 236 in: 100 ft takes 6 lengths and 5 joints; you have 6. At 69.5 lb per 100 ft they weigh 83.4 lb.
Charlotte’s 2 in belled pipe is 20 ft with a 4.00 in bell, so each length adds 236 in.
2 in Sch 40 is rated 280 psi at 73 °F; at 100 °F the factor is 0.62, so 173.6 psi, enough for your 150 psi. Charlotte rates its fittings at 60% of the pipe, so with them the system holds 104.2 psi.
2 in Sch 40 is 280 psi at 73 °F; at 100 °F the makers’ factor is 0.62.
2 in Sch 40: outside diameter 2.375 ± 0.006 in, so 2.369–2.381; wall at least 0.154 in and at most 0.174. Your 2.377 in and 0.16 in are within both.
Spears gives 2 in pipe ±0.006 in on the outside diameter; Rain Bird adds 0.020 in to the 0.154 in wall.

2.375 in (60.3 mm) outside, a 0.154 in minimum wall, a 2.047 in average ID, rated 280 psi at 73 °F and 69.5 lb per 100 ft (Charlotte, IPEX).
It depends on the size: 600 psi at 1/2 in, 450 at 1 in, 280 at 2 in, 220 at 4 in and 180 at 6 in, all at 73 °F. Multiply by 0.62 at 100 °F and 0.22 at 140 °F.
No. GF and Cresline do not recommend it, and UFGS says Schedule 40 pipe should not be threaded at all; use Sch 80 where you need threads.
Yes: Charlotte, JM Eagle and Cresline-West dual-mark it to ASTM D1785 and D2665 for pressure and DWV. Foam-core Sch 40 (F891) is for drains only, not pressure.
A D2466 fitting socket is at least 1.156 in deep at 2 in, where Sch 80 is 1.500 in; a Charlotte belled pipe end is 4.00 in deep at 2 in.
Charlotte says the IPC and UPC do not permit Sch 40 PVC for water distribution within a building; it is listed for water service outside (IPC Table 605.3).
A US buyer of Sch 40 checks the size against D1785, the wall and rating printed on the pipe, plain end or belled and the bell depth, the length, the colour, NSF 61 for drinking water, and whether it is dual-marked for DWV. Mark those on a photo of your own pipe with SizeMarker, like the picture at the top, and share one card in WhatsApp or WeChat.
