A 31.75 mm bar height plus human-readable interpretation plus quiet zones is a fixed budget, and once the data pushes past what fits at the minimum X-dimension, the answer is a bigger label, not a smaller symbol. Two practical notes GS1 adds that rarely make it into a supplier's SOP.
